Welding is the process of joining metals by melting the parts and then using a filler to form a joint. Welding can bedone using different energy sources, from a gas flame or electric arc to a laser or ultrasound. Welding is one of the most sought after trades today. Put your skills to work and earn strong competitive salaries. As long as there are advancements in metal products and metal infrastructures, there will be a place for welders.

The PCCUA Welding program prepares students for the world of work.  Students enrolling in this program acquire skills needed and are provided with a complete OSHA approved safety orientation and practice in welding training booths. PCCUA instructors make sure students have a great learning experience and hands-on training in a variety of welding procedures including:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (TIG/MIG).
  • Pipe Welding
  • Inert Gas Welding

Embedded within the Technical Certificate in Welding Technology program are the Certificate of Proficiency in General Welding Techniques, the Certificate of Proficiency in Mild Steel Welding, and the Certificate of Proficiency in Inert Gas Welding.

  • Students will achieve a complete understanding of welding symbols and print drawing and reading.

  • Students will use the correct procedure in setting up equipment and the skills used in welding

  • Students will use TIG and MIG machines in both pipe and plate welding

  • Students will be able to explain the physical aspect of different metals 

Welding students need a strong foundation to compete in an ever-changing technological society. Therefore, to meet the projected workforce needs, it is imperative to emphasize the skills needed to be a marketable welder. 

At PCCUA, we are committed to teach the skills in demand for our graduates to compete in thewelding job market. Some of the general skill sets required are:

  • Mathematical skills

  • Safety standards

  • Blue print reading

  • Reading and translating diagrams and flow charts

  • Cutting, trimming, and fusing metal together

  • Working in adverse conditions

  • Learning new technologies as needed
